In Reply To: It's good to know that you had a positive experience. Maybe the interviewer was trying to make it seem worse than it really is so there are no "surprises." I'm at the point where I want to stay somewhere long-term and when I read on the board that people leave after 2 years, it makes me nervous.
Message: Your experience with the Firm will be what you make of it. There will always be "surprises"!! That's what makes it fun!! and challenging!! You will never know what you are capable of unless you try it. I turned down a job for the same $$$ in '97 to take the PW job for that same reason and it paid off, big time. Yes, I travelled a lot for a while (to really random places, think Huntsville, AL, Vicksburg, MS, Anchorage, AK -not nearly as exciting as one might imagine). And a lot of people work really insane hours. But again, it was all worth it. Long term, well that's another story. It's quite hard to deal with Firm politics as you progress; you'll see that within 2 years. That's why most people leave, not because they don't like the work or don't get along with the people. I would heartily recommend giving it a shot, you've not much to lose and a great deal to gain.
