find out what percentage of new folks (especially from your office) are starting on each respective date. Although I was an experienced hire, I saw many new hire "classes" come in and it definitely seemed like starting later was a mistake (unless pretty much the entire "class" did so - I never saw that). Of course, all that will smooth out over time, but I would still recommend you try to start on the earliest possible date. When you're talking about a Firm where so few people last more than 2-3 years, even a few weeks or a month can make a difference - remember, your first few months, first year, etc. is supposed to be the "sponge" period. Don't miss out on that by starting later. |

We had one class (I think it was 1999) in my office where all of the new hires started in either mid-July or early August, except one guy - he started in early September. The practice staff roster for four months running (Sept, Oct, Nov & Dec.) left him off - he was a great guy; used to joke that "no one knows I work here". Point being, by the time 11 of the 12 new hires had started and been around for at least a month or so, the office was pretty much been there, done that, with the new hires and he was sorta overlooked.
