In Reply To: I was just hired into the advisory practice and will be starting in the summer. I asked about per diems, and a couple of associates mentioned something about a $75 per day policy while away on business. Is that usually the case - to receive a $75 per diem add on to routine expenses while travelling, or does that some like an arrangement for a specific client? Thanks in advance for your insights.
Message: The only practice I've ever seen routinely use per diems is the Washington Federal practice. Can't necessarily say "office" because although Federal government clients are heavily concentrated in the Washington, D.C. office(s) people from all over the country and and in any office can and have worked on Fed Gov't clients. These clients almost as a rule contractually mandate the use of U.S. Fed per diems for hotels, meals, incidentals, etc. If the per diems you're referring to are indeed the Fed ones, then there is not a set one-size-fits-all number; it depends on the travel location and the domestic rates are published by the General Services Administration on their website. International rates are on the State Dept's website. If the per diems you're referring to AREN'T the Fed ones, then I have no idea - must be an unusual office/practice thing.
