TS is a purely accounting function, it is not the same as IB. IB, from the limited experience I have, matches buyers & sellers thru offering memorandums (which include biz analyses, models, high-level DD, & much much more), then takes them to market. They offer the entire spectrum of Financial Advisory Services. Big 4 FAS are for companies that want accountants to do the menial dirty work if you will. TS-FDD works o/b/o buyers & sellers who are typically PE firms, IB, or Strategic Investors (M&A depts @ Fortune 500 co.'s) who either know about the target co.'s they're looking to acquire or they don't. If they don't TS offers more biz analysis, I/S analysis, and B/S analysis. For instance, what actually drives a co's earnings (sales volume, COGS, etc.) We audit these accounts and profer an opinion. If the buyer is familiar with the target, then we do just what the clients' request of us.
Hopefully, this unstructured characterization will help clarify what TS does.
Furthermore, when discussing TS, the target schools are typically not Ivey's, rather they're (in my opinion) top 40 universities with good accounting and finance programs (Texas-Austin, Mich, IU, U of I, etc.).
TS is straight accounting, so it helps to have audit experience. IB's financial analysis is much more high level (good for econ majors), they never dive into the underlyings of an I/S or B/S. A little confusing but keep asking q's. |
