This is really too bad. I recently had a personal emergency: the two partners I worked for were both very supportive. In fact, they made it possible for me to move away from where I was working and into a smaller office in the middle of nowhere while my situation is resolved. My relationship partner, who I've gotten to know with a little initiative, checks in on me from time to time.
Sorry that you had such a lousy experience. Glad that there are some out there that walk the talk, though.
