In Reply To: on the destination office's need for a person at your level with similar skills and your current office's receptiveness to letting you out of your current position. However, even given that bland description, it can vary quite a bit from group to group, office to office, region to region, and certainly from country to country. I've seen it work almost seamlessly (sure, we'd love to let you go to L.A. -just an example), in fact, the L.A. office will pay for you to go there, be there in a month, relo expenses & everything paid for) and I've also seen it be a complete disaster (no way, no how, you have a committment to us, we'll chat about it in 6-9 months or so, and don't expect to get anything like a good assignment out of this office from here on out, no relo, that's on your own dime, it's your choice to move). My best advice would be to do a little due diligence and find out what the experiences were of people in your group with a similar level of experience and skills who tried to do the same thing. Although that might be misleading, even in the same group, experiences of people I knew were vastly different. Best Wishes!
