Biotechnology Culture- Is this the norm? |

I recently quit a job at one of the most saught after biotech firms in the industry. I was there for a year and found it to be extremely, hierarchical, political and backstabbing and the pressure was INTENSE. This was my first biotech experience and I'm wondering if this is the cultural norm in biotech. Perhaps this culture is a function of company size (~7000 employees)? I really love the industry, but I'm wondering if my experience is a typical one or if it was more company specific. If someone has been around the block once or twice and can shed some light on this issue I'd really appreciate it.
