When I started as an associate editor in Chicago 5 yrs ago I made $27,000 a year in the B2B magazine industry. As an Associate Editor, same industry, I started at $35,000. When I left to go to law school three years ago I was at $38,000 a year w/ a good health & dental package.
Don't undervaluate yourself, ask for a little more than you think you need and chances are that you will get it. Also, ask for something that really costs them nothing, such as an extra week of vacation. I did this and I got it.

How can I find out about not only salaries in book publishing for men and women, besides Census, which I already have? I mean this, is there a site somewhere that explains the exact positions people can hold in book publishing and the range of salary in those positions?
I am doing research for a book and need help here. Book publishing seems to be a dark and deep secret!
