There are two standard paths to move up the ladder, formal education and/or experience. Of course there is also luck and ass kissing but I'll I assume the former paths are the options you would like to pursue. You also have to position ourself in a company that presents the opportunities to move up. If you're in a position where someone has to die before a promotion occurs, you need to get out. Unfortunately, the fact that you had to ask the question might indicate you don't have the initiative to be in "top management." |

for the insight, but my question more specifically is 'does just getting an MBA give me a pass to a "top management" opportunity?'. As far as initiative, I would think that the term is relative. Also, what groups and/or circles would you move in to get a "pass" if you did not possess an MBA from a top school?
