In Reply To: I have a BS in Computer Information Systems, that is a couple years old, and an A+ and shortly a Network+ certification and am finishing an MCSA. My next step would be a Security+ and then try to get a CCNA. I still am wondering how in the world to get hired as a systems administrator?
Message: Although I have espoused the need for technician wanna be's to acquire experience before becoming consultants, the fact is there is a large community of body shops who supply what they call consultants, to people who are willing to pay for such "service." Surprise, I happen to not be one of those people! So, if all you have is a good technical education but no real life experience, your best bet would be to tout yourself around the body shops. If they can place you in a "consulting" position, you have the chance of later being offered a full time spot (If you prove yourself to be exceptional.) or worst case, you will start to build your resume. Of course, don't give up on looking for that permanent position but I would recommend you avoid the WEB, your resume will just get lost. Find yourself a few really good placement agencies who will be willing to present your resume to people with whom they have built relationships. You know, the old fashioned way.
