In Reply To: Maybe I generalized too much...I'm sure they do exist, but I think they are needles in the haystack. And yes, there are definitely plenty of smaller alternatives to the Big 5 (I used to work at one), but unfortunately those types of companies are under extreme pressure right now. Regional constraints are being blown away pretty quickly in the name of grabbing as much revenue as possible. Finally, be sure to get a clear definition of 'regional' when you do come across a company offering such an arrangement. Your definition may be within 100 miles of home, while one consulting company's 'central region' stretches from Toronto to Mexico City.
Message: Dingleberry, Sorry it took so long to respond (I'm the same as exMoto.) Yes, you are right, regional firms are under extreme pressure right now. The bottom line is that breaking into consulting right now will be a very difficult task. As I suggested in my first post, the original questioner may want to re-evaluate why he or she wants to go into consulting.
