I have been looking at making a career change for awhile now. I have a background in sales/marketing with alot of dabbling in the IT field. I was a client project manager for a Y2K SAP coversion and loved it! I am trying to make a career change to Project Managment. My question relates to the need for travel in the IT consultancy area. I do not want to travel at all. I have a 8 month old son at home and I want to be an active parent.
Are there any consulting firms which do not have travel? Should I look to a differnt area maybe? Is project management the best crossover path?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

If you're going into consulting, there's going to be travel and a LOT of it. I've been one for the past three years so I know. I don't know of a single consulting company that doesn't demand at least 50% travel, most are really 75-100%. I'd stick with the project management path withiin a company. Most of the larger companies are always looking for a project mgr. to handle inside projects, even when an outside consulting comapny is involved. That's kind of what I'm looking for too. Plus the consulting industry is in the tank right now.
hope this helps.
