The industry is really down currently. Many firms are trying to hold onto the people they have and are only 30%-40% billable. I am an experienced SC consultant with 25 yrs of industry background and many contacts in the industry. Everyone is sweating it out hoping they won't be cut next.
As an earlier poster said, there are some getting hired if they have a project and not the right skills on the bench. If they can place you immediately, you're on.
I have been around enough over the past several months to know that there are many very good people out there looking for work. This will be a tough profession until business improves and companies increase their IT budgets.
I suspect that things will never look as good as they did in '99-'00. Companies will look at web-enabled solutions with more realism than they had before. Many projects failed to deliver the promised ROI (for various reasons)and there is an awareness of this in industry. I love this profession and it's ability to make improvememnts in client's operations but I have seen many times where the software was over sold. This will affest the rebound of the SC/IT consulting biz. |

I am a manager for a SCM software company and I totally agree with guzzi48's response. Our industry is down and has been not exception to layoffs and cuts. Positive thing is that we are signing new contracts and I hope this helps revitalizing our industry
