I am currently an enrolled undergrad at a top 20 business school and plan on emphasizing in MIS. Ideally I would like to become an IT consultant, however, I am very confused as to what I should be doing right now. I know technical knowledge is important, however, it is difficult to obtain a technical related internship without prior experience. Is this all BS or is it just me? I am currently teaching myself VB, but I'm not sure that will even benefit me in the future. What can I do to improve my situation or to gain more knowledge? Should I change my emphasis all together? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! |

Hi as a long time IT and management consultant - you need business experience as well as technical experience. When you go onto a client's site they want your to talk to them in their language and understand their business. Take some temporary work in some kind of white collar environment and get to know as much as possible. Good Luck.
