In Reply To: Hi Guys - You will probably not make any headway by sending in your resume. It just gets dumped in with everyone else. Also, most firms are only hiring to a project, so it is even tougher now. My best suggestion is to register in their career websites, watch the postings, and when you find one that fits have someone on the inside of the firm do a employee referral on the job code. Then you should follow up with the recruiter, noteing the referral and the job code. This tactic has helped me get attention amongst all the other job seekers. Hope this helps!
Message: The industry is really down currently. Many firms are trying to hold onto the people they have and are only 30%-40% billable. I am an experienced SC consultant with 25 yrs of industry background and many contacts in the industry. Everyone is sweating it out hoping they won't be cut next. As an earlier poster said, there are some getting hired if they have a project and not the right skills on the bench. If they can place you immediately, you're on. I have been around enough over the past several months to know that there are many very good people out there looking for work. This will be a tough profession until business improves and companies increase their IT budgets. I suspect that things will never look as good as they did in '99-'00. Companies will look at web-enabled solutions with more realism than they had before. Many projects failed to deliver the promised ROI (for various reasons)and there is an awareness of this in industry. I love this profession and it's ability to make improvememnts in client's operations but I have seen many times where the software was over sold. This will affest the rebound of the SC/IT consulting biz.
