one month of looking per 10K of salary?
Maybe once upon a time but not anymore, not by a long shot particularly in IT consulting. If you are reasonable I would not expect much more than a month or two to find a six figure job.
Your resume was consulted 300 times in two months? Mine was consulted 300 times in two weeks.
As a side note a lot of consultants are over valued because of the internet boom. Check out the salary surves here on valult I think they are in line. If you are asking more than you see here, you are probably asking too much. |

The boom times are gone... Sure I do agree with over-valued consulting rates. But how about independent consultants who are not with big6 or other major players?
I've been independent for over 9 years now with solid track record and consulting gigs. I ended my last project about a Month Ago. I might have posted my resume on 10 job boards, responded to over 200 job (contract) advts. with not a SINGLE CALL! Now, are we in recession or what?
No, I think the middle players and recruiting companies are going after a slueth of consultants or Java programmers willing to work for Loooow rates! How can you even show a "value proposition" in your rates when the so called "Foreign Tech Workers" are helping the middle layer of recruiters and other body shoppers to drive the rates down!
As per DICE, I can assure you, you won't get calls anymore..Don't even bother emailing your resume to any recruiters. Most of the job ads. I've been seeing are just repeat and fake ads. Oh! one more thing, I have solid references, very much skilled and certified too!
Now, I'm thinking to join full-time consulting firm or any dot-com with solid business ideas (at least for the record). If I think about it, I'd rather take a chance with a dot-com at 100K salary plus stock options than selling myself low to $55 an hour.
Hope this helped! Best of luck to all the Senior Independent consultants!
