I've been out of work since February 2nd of this year. I got sacked from a job making $32K/annual for mild tardiness. I accept that firing me was legitimate and all.
My skills revolve around Windows Desktop Support positions and help desk. I have just under four years of experience in this capacity. I do not have a degree, although I attended a 5th-tier university in the southeast for a few years and have about half of the credits needed to graduate.
I've kept my skills current for what I do.
I've been responding to all the ads I've seen for desktop support in the papers and on Monster, but have gotten nothing besides really lame temp assignments.
Should I pursue an MCSE?
I'm in the Cleveland/Akron metro area. Could it just be the region? |

I am in a similar position as yourself except that I have been looking since Nov. 2, 2000 and the market is really very bad (I am from Akron but now live in the Chicago Area). I have not even received the "lame temp assignments" you are getting. Alot of the problem is the region you live in and I doubt the MCSE would increase your chances except in those cases where some IT manager loves the little letters after your name. Keep looking and keep your head up -- but definetly look outside Cleveland/Akron. Maybe Dallas or Atlanta would be a good start.
