Message: I currently work as an account rep for a mid-size supplemental IT staffing (read: body shop) firm with about 80 people on billing. I've been successful, but I feel it's time for the next step. I am looking at the likes of: from a Sapient (heard this is 1 of the best) or marchFIRST (from Vault's msg boards, it looks like a bad situation) to an EDS, IBM-GS or DiamondCluster-type firm One of my concerns is that this space is so competitive, that I see some of the weaker firms getting stomped on by the big boys, so a larger org seems to be the answer. Another is that I understand (a little) on how the 'solutions' business works, but would still need more training and/or mentoring regarding project-based work - so the new firm would have to help me get started somewhat. I'm looking to get out of the 'body shopping' routine and step into a 'classier' line of work. Don't get me wrong; making $200k is nice, but there are better firms out there with better levels of work and better candidates for your 'resource pool'. Perhaps promoting a company that can support projects from the $100k to $1-2 mil range. Dealing with sr-level VP's and/or CIO's on a more constant basis. Also having the opportunity to make more money (stock options wouldn't hurt). As I said before - the next step for my career. My background has consisted primarily of 6 years of IT consulting sales. Any suggestions as to who to consider, and who to avoid? I see what seems to be many disgruntled people here - I would appreciate some honest feedback/advise. Thanks in advance -
