Discussion topic: How long should one stay at a job?
Need advice...
I graduated engineering in May 2005 and had been working as an engineer since. However, i am doing a Masters program in Financial Engineering and i started looking for jobs more in the business/finance/consulting realm. I got a job as a Business Analyst in a IT/Management Consulting Firm that i am starting this month. However, reading the workplace surveys here on vault has me wondering if i am making a mistake. No one seems to be optimistic about this company and growth here. Although i did get offered a salary competititve for an analyst, i am afraid, from what i have read, that i will be stuck at this for the next gazillion years. To further my quandary, i am graduating from my MSFE program in May next year, at which time, according to salary surveys, i should be make something in the ball park of $20k more than now. But with everything i have read, i highly doubt this company will be giving me such a signicant raise. So i am confused. I really thought i want to grow with this companies, but the reviews dont suggest that will happen. Come next year, i dont want to be stuck making undergrad salary with a graduate degree. But i am scared searching for a new job and starting as early as May next year after graduation will be frowned down upon in the future as career indecisiveness, jumping around, non commital etc. Please advice! What would you do? :-/
