Message: Such as Boston or NYC. It's position-specific and a point you can negotiate during interviews. I have a friend at Bain who negotiated to work full-time in Boston. Very convenient since he lives within 10 mins walking distance of his office. Now he does travel about 10% though and that's an important point I want to make. Whatever you negotiate for (say 25% travel), you'll get talked into doing probably 10-15% more. So try to keep that in mind when you're figuring out how much travel is acceptable for you. And try to stick by it when you start working there because you will always get requests to travel. From what I've seen with the tech consultants, they get the most leeway on where they want to work if they are upfront about it during interviews. There is tech work everywhere so it's not hard to find a local project for you, as long as it's a place where that firm has a depth of clients. So keep that in mind for wherever you want to work and look for the firms that have a major presence in that market.
