I am a consultant and I am planning to leave my current company (a Leading consulting firm). This is my second job in 2years (left the other job to earn 25% more). I have personal issues with some of the managers and I am not interested in staying with the firm any longer (I intend to leave latest by March ending).
Since I made the decision to start searching actively, I have been receiving calls and good interviews (even had an interview with McKinsey 2 days ago). Even though the pay is good (most comparable positions I've seen out there offer lower than what I earn now), I do not mind taking a pay cut just to get out of the firm. The main problem I have is explaining why I want to leave this "lucrative" job after just a little over a year. I obviously do not want to bad-mouth my current employer during an interview.
How do I address this issue? What should I tell potential employers in interviews? Should I quit now? Then I can tell potential employers I left because of management difference or lack of management direction. Please anyone out there with suggestions? |

I would explain your reason for leaving the following way.
The company culture and management direction is not what was promised when I was hired. I stuck it out for a year to give it a fair chance and it just isn't the right fit.
As far as the reason you are willing to take a cut from your lucrative position that is a different issue. I would focus on stressing the importance of finding the right opportunity/home which you can contribute and learn.
Hope this helps.
