This feedback is probably a little late since your original post was several weeks ago...but I agree with the first response. Get the best package you can get from day 1.
Being slated for a C2, you are at least 1 year and probably 2 years away from promotion to Sr. Consultant. The past few years the raises and promotions have been limited unless you are outstanding or are great at office networking.
I'd say I'm surprised they came in 10k lower...but then again, having worked for Hitachi, nothing surprises me with our comp policy. Unless you were grossly overpaid in your former position, I would counter for a similar package to your current offer.
They will probably counter that the wage offered is within the C2-band and that 10k more is outside the band or at the top of the band. But then maybe you can sell yourself as a SC1...just depends on your consulting experience, if any...and if none, what consulting-like work you have done. For example, have you been part of an in house project team?
Good luck with you decision...assuming this isn't too late. :) |

Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words of advise.
It turns out that they had asked me what my bottom line was. I told that if they would match my current base salary with their base + signing bonus, I would consider the offer. The operations manager said she'd call me back the next day. That was 2 months ago.
The problem was that they didn't want me as an SC1 since they claim that I have not used the AIMS method. They agreed that my experience was substantial but they promised a quick promotion.
The whole process was extremely unprofessional! They ended up not calling back at all. I just recently accepted a strategy/management position with Cingular.. The salary is approx. 3x the hitachi offer.
This was possible through excellent job references from my current work. Apparently my co-workers said some amazing things about me, and I got asked for to take this role... Hitachi's loss... If their HR/Hiring processes were more organized and professional, I would be doing great things in their camp.
