Hi,
I am facing a choice that I find not easy at all. I am a software engineer, with 1-2 years experience, living in Scandinavia. I have had 2 job offers in the field I have profiled myself for so far, that is, mobile phones programming.
One of the job offer is to work at one of the best handset manufacturer in programming next generation applications for mobile phones, in Scandinavia. The pay is really not great, but the expertise gained quite good I would say.
On the other hand, the other job offer is in the UK, for a company which is well backed, but for a narrow product/project that the company expect/hope will be a killer app. It involves mobile phones as well and retail banking. The salary is better and the company pays really well for people with no more than 2 years more experience than me. They have been allegedly really enthusiastic about me, talking about really great opportunities to evolve in the company.
The background and criteria behind my choice, is that I want to save, let s say, 300-350 k$ within up to 10 years. of course, the sooner the better.
that is why I am eying really strongly at joining the IT financial sector within 2 years.
If I stay in mobile telecom, I fear to stay in a niche with skills not directly transferable in financial IT. THe UK comapny would give me exposure to multi-threading server prog that is more easily transferable. But I don t know if their product will take off at all.
I would be very keen to hear about other people insights about that choice with my underlying goal in mind.
