Message: Right now I have a great job as an oracle developer and software designer in the industry (not consulting). I am considering and taking offers for consulting positions but I have come to a realization recently. It is very difficult to break into functional consulting without a solid background in that area. For example, an accounting major who has become an Oracle developer has a good shot at doing functional vs. technical. I am considering a different path since I am just recently graduating with my degree in Information and Comp Sci. I think I will keep working at my job which allows me 8 hour days with a very lax atmosphere... while I earn 24 semester hours in Accounting and study for the CPA exam. My goal is to pass the CPA exam and to learn SAP and pursue in the direction of Financials Consulting in SAP. Whether I go into SAP or stay in Oracle, the point is that I want to be able to do functional since that career path is much more rewarding. Considering my background as a very proficient developer, and my goal of moving into the functional from the technical, would earning my CPA be a good strategic move?
