Message: Hi all, Just looking for some general career advice from people who've been here before, or thoughts from people in the same situation. I'm currently working at a boutique IT CRM consultancy working on Siebel implementations. I've been here about 3.5 years now and am thinking about what I want to do next. I've climbed about as high as I can as a practising consultant at this firm (now a Principal), and the only way up is to move into the sales/managerial tier. The obvious steps are 1. Stay where I am, doing what I do. Not too keen on this - starting to stagnate a little. 2. Stay where I am, but move into the management team. This will involve taking on line management, recruitment, account management and sales (business development) responsibilities. All of this is fine except for the Sales bit. Specifically, I'm not too keen on following up telemarketer leads etc part of sales. 3. Go to another IT consultancy and get bigger and better projects. If I did this it would have to be to one of the big names. 4. Go work in the IT department of a blue chip. Work/life balance would probably better here, plus no travel. 5. Go do an MBA. Not sure if want to do this just yet, or wait for a few more years. 6. Do something completely different (any suggestions?) So any comments? What did you do? Or what are you planning to do? Any advice appreciated here. Ahmed
