In Reply To: I can only commiserate with you, and cannot stress enough that you should never go there again. I dated a guy in my office for about a month who seemed like the most charming guy in the world, but I later discovered he was an emotionally abusive prick with a history of barbaric behavior toward women and a criminal history to boot. After he dumped me he wouldn't leave me alone, but didn't want me to come around either. Then he started brazenly "hanging out" with a married coworker, and after her got extremely close with another coworker who was already involved with someone else and 10 years his junior. To make it even worse, he seemed on the outside to treat this girl like a queen--totally opposite of how he'd been with me, and I had to see it and hear about it almost every day. Everytime I heard his name, everytime he was praised for good work, everytime he was with one of these chicks and would glare proudly at me as they passed, it was another turn of the knife. My reprieve came when he was dismissed for poor performance. But by then I was already way too f*cked up by the whole experience for that to matter much. I'm sharing this because yes--dating in the office can create a hell unlike any other. I thought because many of my coworkers were married or dating, that it was acceptable--but I quickly learned otherwise. Just don't go there again, unless you're willing to risk some serious, serious percussions. As another person wrote, it will take time to get over it--longer because you can't get away from him to heal faster. And that's the only way, short of quitting your job--over some guy. And how foul would THAT be, on top of everything else?
Message: hey, thanks for the words of sympathy. the next big obstacle will be the office holiday party. i have heard vague rumors that he is seeing someone now, so if it's true I guess it will be paraded in front of me. this might really suck. anyone know where I can get a fake date quick? preferably gorgeous and rich.
