Hi!
I??m working on a story for Salon.com about dating co-workers who have been asked to sign so-called ??love contracts.?? These are legal documents that say you are in a consensual relationship, will behave professionally and agree not to sue the company if it ends badly. I want to write about how these things affect the development of office affairs.
I??m looking for people anywhere in the U.S. who are willing to share their stories about the following: (I can protect your privacy. I don??t need to use your first name or identify where you work or your romantic partner)
--Did you sign one? Were you approached by a manager or did you approach one?
--Did it put a lot of pressure on your relationship? Did you feel it was ??too soon?? for such a formal expression of commitment ?? as in ??I really like her, but is she contract-worthy???
--Did you avoid an office romance or cut one short because you knew you might have to sign one of these things? Do you feel companies are trying to regulate an area of human behavior it has no business doing so?
--Were you in an office romance and wish these things had existed before? If you work in office where dating is allowed, is it inappropriate or disruptive?
--Are you a manager and have to monitor employees?? romantic involvement in case you have to encourage them to sign one?
-- Does your office forbid employees dating?
I??d love to hear stories about all aspects of this! Please e-mail me directly at: serichards332000@yahoo.com. (No long e-mails necessary; we can follow up by phone.) Please pass this on to any of your friends. I need good sources!
Best,
Sarah Richards
