In Reply To: My boss, who is a senior level executive gets rip roaring drunk at almost every business dinner that he hosts or attends. He becomes verbally abusive or rude to all dinner guests, and sometimes actually becomes physically threatening. His drinking is starting to noticably influence his moods which were never stable to begin with. He has begun to drink at the office, sometimes being "in the bag" by 5:00 before we go out to a business function. My problem is, coming from a family with similar problems, I feel that this is putting alot of strain on my work performance as well having to deal with this all over again. I have had my own battles with alcohol and I no longer drink yet I am berated for not joining in the bacchanal. Any suggestions?
Message: Yes, and you are correct! After spending some 17 years in the purchasing area of the business with several different industries I have just about seen it all regarding "bad" bosses. From those who are alcholics to those who make "Darth Vader" look like a saint!! The only recommendation that I can make to people is that if after say 6 month to 1 year you notice any of the above behavior, & or they do not listen to any of your recommendations even though you have more direct job experience than your bosses do, then you should start looking for another job ASAP!!! The longer you stay there the "worse" that it is going to get!!! Best of luch finding someone who appreciates your effort! JWG
