I'm considering applying to the Chicago office for a managing consultant position within health care. I currently work in the federal government with no consulting experience. However, I have 3 years of legislative/health care advising experience. Is this position over my head for not having consulting experience?
And, I can't access the later messages about this--what are starting salaries like for this position? Any advice is much appreciated!!! |

The healthcare service line is the best of NCI in my opinion. Coming from the Fed is not a problem, espcially given your legislative experience. But, are you an LA, LC, or a Staff Assistant? How much policy experience do you have? Do you have clinical experience. If not, you will NOT be brought in as a managing consultant. Probably a consultant or a Senior, but I doubt managing. Coming from the Fed, you probably have little management experience. You would be classified as an "experienced hire," but with ZERO hard consulting experience. In Chi-town, I'd surmise you may be able to squeeze $60K if you can demonstrate your policy experience in healthcare, and any management functions, as well as clinical experience, and provider/payer relationships. If not, think lower.
