Just wondering what happens if someone who is successful in getting an internship, but cannot start the internship due to personal reasons.
Now would you have to apply again and go through the whole recruitment process to be considered for the full time grad position for the following year?
Anyone been through this situation - what happens?

you would definitely have to go through the process again. full time recruitment is a lot more scrutinizing than internships, especially given that you hadn't interned in the industry (if you don't intern this summer). in fact, an internship with a company does not guarantee you a full time position, i know several guys who interned various places summer 05, who did not get the full time offers for this coming summer. at least you may have developed a little rapport with the interviewers, they may be the ones conducting the full time interviews as well.
