In Reply To: I really like monitor, so I was over-the-moon to be offered a job, but then the offer came through. The offer is 15-20% on the wrong side of my other offers from similar consultancies (taking into account benefits). Is under-compensation a characteristic of Monitor? Will I feel under compensated relative to my peers for the duration of my consulting career? Should I take a higher offer from a company that I don??t like as much? I appreciate that ??fit?? is the most important factor in making a company choice, but I am going to give the best working years of my life to a firm and I expected to be paid accordingly!!!!
Message: Hey, I think 15-20% is a bit more of a difference than I've seen, but I agree, Monitor pays less. I recently accepted my offer from monitor. I considered other firms, and here is what i came up with: I know boutiques will offer you 20-25% more, but you will lack the name recognition. On the other side of the rankings, m/b/b don't appear to be as pleasant of places to work as monitor. I've spoken with consultants who have left m/b/b to come to monitor, and prefer the culture much more. Mckinsey is still a bigger name, so if you have an offer from them which pays more, and you think you can handle the longer hours and work environment, then you should probably go with Mckinsey. But if your other offers are from firms like accenture, i would definitely stick with monitor. Exit opportunities are key when you're twenty-something. But I think your last sentence answsers your questions... if you are going to give the best working years of your life to a firm, wouldn't you rather enjoy every day in the office instead of being apathetic at work and making $5k extra?
