In Reply To: Making follow-up calls is a not a good use of your time. FIRST of all, you should NOT be using a Resume to try to get interviews. They fail 99% of the time. SECOND; Even if you ignore the above advice, you will fail 99% of the time just trying to get someone on the phone. HR people (who handle ALL resumes) are too busy to fool with people calling "to see if you got my resume." THIRD; in 16 years as an executive job hunter's consultant, I've almost never advised a client to make the kind of follow-up calls that most people mean when they talk about making follow-up calls. FOURTH; it DOES make sense to get back to people when there is more of a reason to than merely to see if someone "got your resume." CareerKeysMan@yahoo.com
Message: Thank you for your advice, I will follow your suggestion. How does one go about obtaining solid interviews without using a resume? If I am not using my resume as aa primary introduction, how should I be doing it- through headhunters or "through people (I) know"? I believe your statistic (failing 99% of the time), but how can I become more efficient in getting to the right people? Thanks again for your input.
