In Reply To: Hello! Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to break into the movie industry as talent? I have already mapped out a preliminary plan starting with finding a modeling agency that handles actors (like Ford). Then by doing commercials, bit parts, etc., etc., etc... and working up to film. If anyone reading this has suggestions, feel free to voice them... thanks! M.J.
Message: Dear MJ: Having worked in "showbiz" I found the best way to do it was to live in either New York or LA. (I have worked in both music (recorded for CBS Records) and tv production on 100's of shows. I have worked with Paul McCartney, James Brown, Elton John, many others) Find an intern position. The record labels offer them. Some tv/film production houses, etc) and learn what it takes to put the pieces of a tv show together. Or if you are musically inclined, how to put the pieces together for a successful singer/musician's career. When you learn the business or construction of a career and it's parts, then the creative is much easier to achieve. Also joining a class, especially at UCLA, you have an opportunity to meet and speak with people already working in the "Biz". The last suggestion is learn the names of the best agents in the business. To do that just pick out some of your favorite actors, and learn who their agents are. (Just call Screen Actors Guild in LA. and ask for the name of the agent that handles that particular actor/actress.) Then study that agent! Find a way to get his or her attention for some acting work. A lot of these methods take guts, creative thinking, and intense focus. But you are going to need those attributes in quantity to just go through a regular day as a successful actress/actor. Hope this helps CC
