Topic Name: Difference for BTO Experienced Hire Interviewing?

In Reply To: Hi, all -- I'm scheduled to interview for a BTO position soon. I am an experienced hire who was contacted by a McK recruiter. I have been (over)prepping for my case interviews and my PEI. A couple of good friends are recommending I chill out since the recruiter contacted me (as opposed to me being a fresh applicant off the web/street). My question for McK employees: is the interviewing process different in any way for an experienced hire a recruiter has referred to the firm? I'm guessing the overall structure is still the same - PEI and cases, but I really want to know what is the focus from the firm's perspective - are they looking to validate the work I've said I've performed? Are they looking to see the softer stuff - like leadership qualities, solid client experience, potential to bring in that client, and so on? Or is it just exactly the same as if it were a fresh candidate out of campus recruiting. What I'm really trying to get at is - is any level of skill or analytic ability presumed for experienced hires? Lastly, if anyone can provide good advice on the interviewing process, I would be grateful. Specifically, stuff that no one ever tells you about until after the fact... stuff that is never written anywhere... :) Thanks in advance!
Message: Hi March, I just got an offer from MCK in their BTO practice and I am an experienced hire. I suggest you read my post as I have shared my experiences and what the overall process was. I did not have anything out of the ordinary and it was fairly case focussed. I can tell you though that I met with a lot of partners and no associates or EMs. A couple of the interviews were a little more probing on the background and the experience I do not think they will differentiate if the recruiter called you, so I would say no, dont chill out. I would say really practice on the cases and have a good story to tell. If you are a top 10 MBA then that will definately help if not you will have to do well in your cases and also impress that your skill set can be leveraged. Hope this helps
