I suppose I should have added that I do not just have a strategic communications background, I also have lived and worked internationally (MA in IR), speak three languages, am culturally knowledgeable and have a security clearance. I have looked at the McKinsey Web site, but unfortunately Web sites do not always tell the "inside" story. I know that the Web site says they have positions for generalists but that doesn't mean that they may actually hire them. I also know most people are hired by referral and it is chance if you are hired by Web site. So, I don't want to waste my time if all McKinsey wants are MBAs. And I don't believe that questions are dumb...I asked what I wanted to know at the moment and received an answer. Perhaps it wasn't to some people's liking, but that's the way it goes. |

Some comments to choas (I'm also interested in McK):
'I also have lived and worked internationally (MA in IR), speak three languages'
So do every other European candidate.
'they have positions for generalists but that doesn't mean that they may actually hire them.'
I am left speechless by your insight.
'I also know most people are hired by referral'
Another piercing insight...seems like you know McK's recruiting process very well. I should consult with you. Wait, on a second thought, I'll go ask my niece first.
'So, I don't want to waste my time if all McKinsey wants are MBAs'
If you did little homework, you would have found out that about half of McK's new associates are APDs, not MBAs. APD = PhD, MD, JD
