In Reply To: Could someone help me understnad what the various job families at McK are? From the last chain of communication, I gathered "consultants" and "analysts" are two totally different job families...what are the others? This might sound like a rather basic questions, but I just started looking for jobs in the MC world, and I'd love to learn what the different jobs out there are... Thx
Message: A bit of clarification: the term "analyst" can mean many things at McKinsey, and for that reason is rarely used alone, without the appropriate modifier. For example, a Business Analyst is a junior consultant, one who is generally hired in straight out of undergrad; works there for two years, doing similar work to associates, including client interaction; and then generally leaves McKinsey for business school, often returning as an associate. A Research Analyst is a totally different role and is what's being discussed extensively in this thread; it's not a client-facing role and doesn't carry anywhere near the same prestige. There's probably other job titles that include the word "analyst" that are not coming to mind at the moment. Hope that helps...
