Have a summer offer from both. Booz is an ideal location while Mck is in a location that I do not really want to be in. Any thoughts on what I should do? |

I'm usually a passive observor of this board, but had to respond to some of the advice you've been getting, particularly from "ey-ore".
Have been w/ the firm for 3 years since my MBA, so I'm a little biased. But I think you're entitled to more complete information before making your decision.
Pro Mck:
- Larger alumni base
- Greater breadth in industries/functions
- Larger scale overall, so perhaps better support infrastructure (Booz overall is larger but I understand that the commercial side can't really take advantage of the tech side's scale).
Pro Booz:
- Highly respected commercial side, with especially strong growth in particular industries (defense firm strategy, energy, reorganization (orgDNA stuff))
- More stable (tech side can carry them in downturns)
Both firms do their share of ops and IT stuff. Both firms do their share of classical strategy, though that whole market is shrinking. Both firms have high rev/consultant (though Mck commands a premium of about $30-40k per consultant). And both firms' alums are in big demand in the private sector (though as I mentioned, Mck's network is larger). Both firms have extraordinary people (I know several Rhodes Scholars at Booz, though Mck of course has more).
It's important that Firm employees and alumni on this board give you complete, accurate information., not just the rah-rah-Mck line (it makes us look insecure).
Bottom line: Booz commerical side is highly respected among our client base; you would never regret going there. But given a choice, I would tilt toward Mck -- unless other factors like location are very salient for you. Don't forget: you can always transfer offices after the summer!
I'd be happy to talk with you more offline if you prefer.
