In Reply To: A typical day is as following: you show up in the morning and do research till the cows go home. Sometimes very interesting research, sometimes not. From what I see from looking at our R&I folks, the day ends at circa 10-11 pm. Please keep in mind that you might (depending on your office) get research requests from teams in various time zones. Career path - you do research and then you leave somewhere else to do research. Most likely banks, rating agencies, etc
Message: R&I working till 10-11pm sounds pretty late to me. In my experience, they tend to be finishing about 6-7pm, (unless there is a particular large deadline) Also my sense in that the R&I teams who are still in offices get requests mainly about their own geography/ continent so the time zone thing could be less of an issue. McKc in India do most of the basic research from multiple time zones. As for career path, there is a possibility to be a senior research analyst and then go into management of R&I. Also very slim chance to transition to consulting track (but rare). Basically it can be an interesting job, but its definitely research, helping teams and not front line consulting.
