In Reply To: Hi everyone. I applied to McK and was dinged for a summer associate position (I'm at a MBA core school). I asked for feedback re: action to take over the summer wrt internships and was told that industry/function choice is not too important in strengthening my candidacy for a full-time position (all the firms said this). Anyone here have any different thoughts? My instinct is that industry would be the best option (particularly if I work in an industry in which my target office has a concentration), but I'm clearly not the best judge. Anyone have a strong opinion one way or another? Thanks in advance for your help!
Message: It is good to get experience in industry over the summer, particularly if you feel it is in an industry of interest to your target office. However, it should ideally be with a good blue chip name. This is probably more useful than working at another consulting firm/ bank. However, bear in mind that you may not get an offer from McK, so make sure whatever you do for the summer is actually something you might be interested in longer term!
