I doubt there are any hard numbers out there but it's my impression (from my experience and looking at what my friends have done) that most of those that get offers from both Bain and McK end up going with McK (one could look at BCG under the same lense). If this is the case it would speak to the inaccuracies of your impression.
Personally I didn't even apply to Bain but a fair amount of my friends did. For me the decision came down to BCG or McK and I chose The Firm. |

My personal impression has been that we lose a lot more people to BCG than Bain. But choices do not always depend on what the candidate decides to be a "better" firm. A significant factor to the decision could also be lifestyle, which Bain/BCG claim is better than McKinsey.
