I have a few quick reactions to your post:
1. Unless there's something about your background you're not sharing in your post, you're going to have a hard time even getting an interview with McKinsey. AFAIK, last I checked the only LA b-schools that cracked the top 25 were USC and UCLA, neither of which is likely to be the "small private university" to which you refer. McK recruits pretty exclusively from top programs (b-schools and other graduate schools).
2. As a father of two young children, if you did get a job at McK, would you be prepared to only see those children on weekends? During the week, you would be getting home after they get to bed (if you're even getting home at all; much of the time you'd be staffed out of town). It's not a great lifestyle for a parent.
3. I don't really know anything about KPMG in general, or audit work in particular, but I doubt it bears much resemblance to the sort of work McK does.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think I'm being realistic.

I addressed most of your points in my reply to the previous post, but I do hear what you're saying about the b-school pedigree. I am not sure what they might be looking for in terms of experience, etc. but I may or may not have it. However, if they are simply looking for cookie cutter b-school automatons, it might not be a good fit. I really excel in a situation where I can apply my abilities, not in a traditional "Scantron" kind of way. In fact, as a result of my MBA program I've presented academic papers at 6-8 conferences nationwide - not sure what kind of impact that would have or if it might compensate for not having a b-school with the right initials. So, when all is said and done, it might not be a fit, but I am just curious about learning more.
