Unfortunately I know little about experienced hire practices in McK. But I'm sure a number of posters who are current or ex McKinseyites have more info. Try browsing through the board for earlier posts.
A generalist is involved in studies from different industries. Some specialise at a later stage in their career, but from what I heard most consultants remain generalists - altho they do establish a reputation in certain industries within the Firm and that often result in being delegated a larger portion of their studies in those industries.
As for the test, it is also very well covered in other posts in this board. Basically it is a 1hr test with 3 cases, each with about 10 mutli choice questions. For each case, you spend a few minutes digesting the backgroud info (usually in words, some data) then you will be given more info as you proceed. Some questions allow more than one answer - the insight/opinion questions. The others are mostly math-related questions - basic arithmetics, graph interpretation etc. I think the purpose of the test is to see if you have good maths and business senses. It is not a particularly hard test but some say practicing on GRE-type questions helps.
Good luck! |
