Lets not jumped to conclusions. Maybe when he interviewed McK, he hadn't accepted the offer from the other company yet. In any case, when you have a contract that says that either party can back out anytime, I would be comfortable interviewing other companies. |

nope, don't buy it. He accepted other offer in December, McK offer comes up only now two months later. No way the firm let that much time lapse before getting back to him. The interview took place _recently_, after OP had already had ample time to go through the handwringing routine on his own...
The contract is not at issue. The OP puts this clearly on the ethical ground. Whether _you_ would be comfortable is irrelevan t since you would clearly frame this as a legal prob.
