In Reply To: Got an offer from McK, but cannot accept it... I'm an APD, searching for a job for the first time. Was offered another job in Dec and couldn't extend the deadline. Fearing for not having a job after graduation, I accepted it. The offer letter says that either the company of myself can back up at any time. But I think it would be very unethical to do so. I like McK and the position here SO MUCH MORE though. So if I work in the other firm for a couple of years, would I still have a chance to come back and work in McK? Any advice or suggestions would be highly appreciated! Thanks~~
Message: haven't you made the choice already when you decided to interview with McK, while having already accepted the other job? if there's anything unethical here, it would be interviewing with a firm while not being in a position to accept an offer - basically wasting other people's time. And I have to wonder what you told the McK folks when asked about what your job search situation is, what other firms you're in contact with etc... seems to me you're either looking for moral support from strangers on a webboard for a decision you've already made (weak) or getting freaked out now that you are faced with the unpleasant task of telling the truth to your mentor (get over it... if you can't deliver bad news maybe you should stay in academia...). At any rate, the ethics highhorsery approach sounds pretty lame...
