In Reply To: When I was a junior I was undecided between banking and consulting. My strategy was to try out banking for the summer and then see whether I wanted to stick with it or go for consulting. It worked out pretty well, I worked at a bank in New York and after that I decided to recruit with consultancy firms because I thought the job would require a bit more creative input. Nobody actually enjoys being an analyst at a bulge bracket bank. Some hate it more, some hate it less, but nobody likes it. Unless you are that one guy who is a sadist. However pay is good and exit opportunities are good plus if you work hard and are relatively smart you can get some mentors which can teach you some good stuff. Regardless some VPs/MDs certainly enjoy their work as they just fly around and talk on conference calls. The 23 year old kids they sent down to recruit certainly don't give you a representative impression of how much enjoy their job.
Message: thx man, really helpful. I was tempted by the same strategy and I think I'm gonna stick with it. thx a bunch
