Hi there-
I have been offered a grad position with McK as a BA. I am currently finishing my law degree.
My real interest is in international development - my ultimate goal is to work in an international organisation in this field (eg UNDP). I have been told that McK does work with UN agencies and the BA program would be a good first job to build contacts and develop skills useful for slotting into an internaitonal agency later at a higher level. Certainly the prospect of undertaking a MPP or MPA at a top school like Harvard is a big attraction.
My question is - how real is the scope for working with international organisations through McKinsey? Do you know of people who have graduated from McK into IOs? Is having the McKinsey 'brand' on your CV recognised by international organisations? Any general advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

: the best path is to work with the nonprofit practice within mckinsey. they do some work with these multilateral organizations and other very high-profile ID/nonrprofit orgs. the downside is that you can only work for the practice up to 9months.
Do you know of people who have graduated from McK into IOs? Yes, there are a bunch of them.

Definitely. but brand is always just a piece of credential that will get your food in the door, but at the end of the day, it is your skills, personal qualities, and network that will ultimately determine whether your landing the ID field would be successful.
