In Reply To: If you're interviewing for a job knowing that you're in the midst of family planning and may well go on maternity leave in the coming year, what are the considerations? If you're confident that you're looking to stay in a new position for the long-term and don't want to raise red flags to the interviewer, is it deceptive not to wear wedding rings that might signal that you may be shortly starting a family?
Message: It is perfectly acceptable to conceal your marital status. It is illegal for an employer to consider marital status, parental status, or soon-to-be parental status when evaluating someone for a job. If you feel like you might be descriminated against, then leave the ring off. That being said, I sincerely doubt it would be used against you by McKinsey. If you were interviewing with a company that wanted to hire one person for a specific job, then it could likely be a real danger. But with McKinsey, you would simply one of thousands they would hire this year. They are looking for those who are qualified. Your going on maternity leave won't change their opinion of your value to the firm.
