In Reply To: I work in IBM BCS public svc sector in DC and want to get into Mngt Consulting (Strategy i.e: Venture Capital, Private Finance) projects. I dont have an MBA but have 8yrs exp. 6 in Finance/Accounting, M&A, Business Process. I want to ideally work at a Bain, BCG or McK. What company would be a better branding leverage to get on those type of projects and work my way into Mngmt Consulting? Help!!!!(i.e: If choosing b/w ACN, BAH, DC what is a better company in the view of Bain, BCG, McK?
Message: I'll let others comment on your chances of getting in to Mck -- it's been awhile since I left. But regarding your question about the other firms, BAH is the clear choice over DC anc ACN. The perception among ex consultants is sorta like this: the same way Wharton is a notch below Stanford and HBS, BAH is a notch below m/b/b, but it is way above firms like AcN and DC(DC and ACN are more analogous to Duke and Michigan bschool). Not trying to offend anyone, but this is the perception, whether people admit it or not. Having said that, there are certain areas in which BAH even surpasses m/b/b -- aerospace and defense (if you're thinking about Caryle, where my wife works), and some might argue even energy. Bottom line: shoot for mck (i'm biased), then b/b, but you definitely can't go wrong w/ BAH either (especially if you're interested in defense VC/PE). But you're better off staying at IBM rather than ACN or DC.
