In Reply To: I just accepted an Associate position at McKinsey and am starting to think about the things I'll need to purchase in advance of my start date. From what I've read, electronics (laptop, cell phone, pda) are provided, so I needn't worry about them, correct? This leaves clothing, luggage...anything else I'm forgetting? Clothing: During my interviews, McK employees I met dressed surprisingly informally--nice pants, shirts, sometimes ties, no jackets--what I'd call business casual. I'm guessing this is NOT the norm for client site apparel, but more casual fare adopted for interviews and (maybe) in-office Fridays. Is this true? What would those with McK experience advise in terms of suits: colors, styles, brands? Anything different for or specific to women (e.g. skirts vs. pants)? With how many suits should I start? Luggage: I imagine sticking to carry-on luggage would be a significant time/hassle saver. And, I probably need a garment bag type to haul suits with minimal wrinkling. Are those rolling garment bags I've seen small enough to be carry on? Any specific types/brands that are particularly durable, convenient, storage efficient? Thanks in advance for your responses, which I anticipate will be very helpful, just like most on this board!
Message: Hi foxylady12 - congratulations on getting through. Sorry to hijack your post. I remember you from the lowest GPA thread. Since you've gotten in, could you offer any advice on non-GPA distinctions for the initial cut? What sort of leadership examples were useful for you in the PEI?
