In Reply To: To I'm-full-of-it-kid: There is no such thing as top 10 MBA schools. There are top 15 MBA schools. When I say 20% invitation, this value is little bit lower than an actual number that I heard from a two of the top 15 schools this past recruiting cycle. Reasonable estimates for overall resume screening (all applicants, all schools) should be 10% to 20% for 1st round McK interview invitation.
Message: the 20% sounds about right, given that nearly half of the MBA class at core b-schools applies for consulting jobs - contrary to banking, PE/HF/VC, marketing etc. consulting doesn't require any specific previous background, so it's ideal as a backup. And even though there are a lot of interview slots, they are still much less than the number of applicants. However not all applicants are serious, and a lot of them have 0 chance anyway. The phenomenon is largely driven by HR looking to inflate number (e.g. we reject 99% of applicants etc.), inviting people to apply just so they can be rejected later on... pretty pathetic actually. So don't put too much meaning in all these percentages, they don't represent actual selectivity.
